I added injury to exhaustion during our first full supermarket trip today. The nearest large supermarket is a little further away than our last one, but everything had been going fine, if slightly more expensively than before. That was until we walked out and prepared to cross the most pedestrian-unfriendly crossing that you've ever seen - there are two lanes of traffic in both directions, and a light that (sensibly) just constantly says DON'T WALK no matter how many times you push the button, and doesn't let you over. We started crossing when traffic on our left was stopped, and we thought we were safe - but to make matters worse, when you get off the pavement, there's a sudden big sort of divot in the road. The wheels of our heavily loaded shopping cart fell into it, giving me enough momentum to throw me forwards on top of it, and I smacked face down on the road in front of a queue of cars. It hurt a lot, in case you're wondering.

The woman in the car at the lights kindly held up the traffic as she got out to help us gather our shopping and my limbs up, and saw me to a nearby bench. The shopping cart that had served us well at the old flat is also destroyed - I hobbled over to just leave it leaning on the wall with its wheels mangled together, and the supermarket said we could just borrow a trolley instead to get everything back. During the noisiest walk back from the supermarket ever, Whitney caught it badly on her ankle as well, so we're both invalids for now.

I think we'll try the family-owned market place down the road next time instead.
