I've had another silent period in this because I've been ill. Guess what everyone asks when they hear that? Yes. I'm actually quite surprised that the swine flu has passed without much of a mention from any of my friends list, but that's just a sign that my friends are not a bunch of complete Daily Mail readers. The messages about it on the news and on the Internet itself on places like the WHO site are surprisingly different - through finding out about it myself it seems that it's a mild flu that happens to have killed a few people in a country that doesn't have a very good health service. The news here goes more for the approach of "AAAAHH WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE" - even the usually calmer BBC isn't very reassuring, especially as they had a relieved headline over the weekend that said "Swine flu spread not as bad as expected outside North America". Thanks a lot. And apparently it's much more dangerous the less sickly you are normally, so I'll have no problems at all. Perhaps it'll get worse eventually, and perhaps it'll fade away again and we'll all have survived the apocalypse. Again. Do you want to know the best part, though? We're all going to Mexico in October because Whitney's grandmother has invited us on an obscenely expensive cruise. So if it's more advantageous to catch it now while it's less dangerous, maybe it's a better idea for me to go out and infect people - or spend a day on the subway licking the handrails. 2009-05-05 07:13:00 8 comments |
