I had a very satisfying Jonathan Creek moment the other day when setting up my guitar stuff in the new office area - everything had seemed to work fine before I got the computer set up and connected, but in the evening, whenever I turned the headphones on I would get a loud buzzing noise through them that hadn't been there before (even when we lived opposite a transceiver on a lamp-post and used to get leaked police and taxi conversations). I checked over everything around the room that I thought could be causing the buzz, looking at the connection to the computer and back, the socket on the guitar, the presence of the unplugged amp behind it, and swapping the headphones to see if it was coming from them. Nothing seemed to help, although when the cable from the guitar to the Pod was moved, it seemed to go in and out a bit.

After leaving it for a while, I picked up the guitar again to see if the buzzing had gone as quickly as it had appeared. In doing so, I forgot about the slightly lower ceiling, and rammed the point of the headstock firmly into the fluorescent light above me. The fluorescent light! That was the difference - earlier in the day, it was light outside and I wouldn't have had it turned on. Sure enough, when the one directly above the computer was turned off, the buzzing all but vanished, and a slightly higher setting on the noise gate took care of the rest of it. So it looks like I'd better just record during the day from now on.
